Clare Byrne's Weekly Rites: 2/27/11

Things which comfort me in a moment of duress - things I don't have, lost to me. Is this a cover for something else? Here, though, wonderfully weighted drama being under veil, under wraps.

Intent

Weekly Rites is a performance-in-progress, a process conducted weekly over five years, posted by Friday evening. It recently came to completion in mid-July 2012.

It has been an ongoing experiment in movement and writing, how with my body, camera and a place, I can perform an old and ongoing function: channelling through movement, sound, image and word. It seems that the rite can have a sort of life, an ongoing or latent action, or curious density. If I've done my job it has continued to accumulate or unfold.

The sections have been chosen from a half hour of continuously recorded performance videotaped wherever I have been that week.

I work from a place of not knowing, from nothing - learning through doing. I don't try to be good, but devoted. You, as a viewer, have always inspired me. I invite you to watch or not watch, do or not do - respond whichever way you want.
