I have a student in my beginning dance class who is pregnant. Teaching her means that two times a week I'm having some kind of impact on her developing child, who experiences my instruction through the layers of filter of the mother's body: skin, moving muscle, membrane, blood, amniotic fluid, and the baby's own developing organs of perception. "Screens" are inherent, not the exception in our experience, right from the start. The child will never consciously remember its movement in my class, but I know the real effect of my actions.
